Classroom pilot privacy notice
Your school data belongs in the classroom.
This notice explains the limited information Codeelab uses to provide its Grade 4 classroom-pilot service. It is written for school staff, parents or guardians, and learners.
What we collect
Codeelab stores school, class and learner profile details needed to run the pilot: school and class names, teacher names and email addresses, learner display names, learner access codes, lesson progress, teacher feedback, assignment files and project evidence.
We do not ask learners for a personal email address, home address, identity number, payment details or public profile.
Why we use it
We use this information only to create secure school access, show a learner's progress to their assigned teacher, accept assignments and project evidence, produce classroom progress reports, and maintain the service. We do not sell learner information or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
Learners see their own work. Assigned teachers see the learners in their classes. A school administrator manages that school's staff, classes and learner accounts. Codeelab support may access data only when it is necessary to investigate a reported service issue or maintain the platform.
Files, retention and security
Assignment and project-evidence files are kept in protected school storage. Replaced or removed files are marked for removal after 90 days. Access is controlled by signed-in role and school, and key staff actions are recorded for review. Schools should not upload sensitive personal information to assignments or project evidence.
Requests and concerns
A parent, guardian, learner or staff member can ask their school administrator to correct a record, request access to their information, or raise a privacy concern. The school administrator can route the request to the Codeelab pilot team. Before public launch, Codeelab will publish its Information Officer contact details and final request process.
Pilot status
This is a pilot privacy notice, not a statement of formal POPIA certification. Before public launch, Codeelab will complete its legal review, confirm its responsible-party and operator arrangements with participating schools, appoint and register the required Information Officer, and publish the final privacy and PAIA documentation.
